The ROIBOT Award is presented every two years by a jury of industry experts and journalists to recognize outstanding automation projects driven by innovation and creativity.
With more than 100 submissions from 20 countries, this year’s competition showcases the remarkable versatility of Low-Cost Automation — from precision telescopic calibration tools and advanced quality assurance in packaging to an inspiring inclusion initiative empowering people with disabilities to work independently using robotics.
The top three winners, along with a special award for educational institutions, will receive a voucher for RBTX.com, igus' marketplace for low-cost automation.
1st place
Independent at last: the automated workplace
This groundbreaking project uses affordable, easy-to-operate robotics to empower individuals with severe physical disabilities to work independently — proving that automation can be both inclusive and life-changing.
Payback period: Approx. 24 months
Prize: Robotics components worth around $5,500
2nd place
Visual quality control
The ReBeL® cobot optimizes quality assurance in the packaging industry by precisely aligning cartons, stacking them neatly, and performing a visual quality check using an integrated camera.
Payback period: Approx. 24 months
Prize: Robotic components worth around $2,500
3rd place
Robots for particle physics
For a basic research project in astroparticle physics, a low-maintenance, grease-free motion system with a long service life was developed, consisting of a special XY table with robust linear rails.
Payback period: Approx. 24 months
Prize: Robotic components worth around $1,100
Special prize for educational institutions
Automated fruit harvesting
As part of a research project, an innovative robotic solution was developed to autonomously harvest apples in a simulated orchard. A mobile robot equipped with advanced sensors and a gripper mechanism identifies and picks ripe fruit.
